Acer palmatum 'Shigitatsu sawa'
The pretty leaves display a network of prominently green-coloured veins and light yellow to light green interspaces. This variety is also known as 'Greenet' or 'Reticulatum'. in the spring and early summer, the contrast is obvious. The unique marking is bright and holds well, especially if the plant is protected from the hot sun. Later, in the summer, the foliage darkens. In the autumn the leaves change to orange or rich red.
This medium-sized, upright tree reaches 5 m high and 4 m in spread.
A magnificent plant! Makes a perfect tree to grow in containers.
Garden Care:
Should be grown in moist but well-drained soil. This cultivar appreciates protection from the hot sun that tends to burn the leaves.
Like all Maples, this one is very easy to maintain. It doesn't require any pruning routine. Remove any dead or damaged branches. The best time to prune is the late autumn or winter when the plant is fully dormant.
In spring you may add a top dressing of a multi-purpose fertiliser or organic matter around the base of the plant.
