Acer palmatum 'Seiryu'

Acer palmatum 'Seiryu' summer leaf

Acer palmatum 'Seiryu'

'Seiryu' is known for its graceful, upright habit, deeply cut leaves, and excellent autumn colour. An unusual variety as it is the only green dissectum with an upright growing habit. Can be a large shrub or small tree. Has a vase-shaped habit which broadens with maturity.

The rich green leaves are tinged with red when they emerge in spring and turn shades of dark orange, plum purple, orange or red in the autumn before falling.

Maximum height and spread 4m in 20 years. Requires well-drained, moist soil. Prefers a sunny spot with partial shade. Is tolerant of full sun.

Garden Care:

Should be grown in moist but well-drained soil. Leaf colour is best in partial shade but the full sun can be tolerated.

Like all Maples, this one is very easy to maintain. It doesn't require any pruning routine. Remove any dead or damaged branches. The best time to prune is the late autumn or winter when the plant is fully dormant.

In spring you may add a top dressing of a multi-purpose fertiliser or organic matter around the base of the plant.
