This pretty variety is a small, compact form of Acer palmatum 'Sango kaku' It has lovely soft, lime-green spring foliage contrasting with the pink-red shoots. The leaves are light green through the summer, taking on an attractive yellow-orange-red mottling in the autumn before turning a light, crimson red. The habit remains compact and bushy and it will reach no more than 3 m at maturity. This makes it a perfect maple for a small garden. An amazing variety with colourful features all year.
Should be grown in moist but well-drained soil. Leaf colour is best in partial shade but the full sun can be tolerated.
Like all Maples, this one is very easy to maintain. It doesn't require any pruning routine. Remove any dead or damaged branches. The best time to prune is the late autumn or winter when the plant is fully dormant.
In spring you may add a top dressing of a multi-purpose fertiliser or organic matter around the base of the plant.
