Acer palmatum 'Okagami' is A small, upright deciduous tree with deeply divided, purplish-red spring foliage. The leaves turn a shiny blackish red with green tones then turn into beautiful scarlet in autumn. Broadly ovate leaves with 5-7 lobes. The name 'Okagami' means 'mirror'.
It can reach 4m x 4m at maturity and has rounded to broadly columnar habit.
Should be grown in moist but well-drained soil. Leaf colour is best in partial shade but the full sun can be tolerated.
Like all Maples, this one is very easy to maintain. It doesn't require any pruning routine. Remove any dead or damaged branches. The best time to prune is the late autumn or winter when the plant is fully dormant.
In spring you may add a top dressing of a multi-purpose fertiliser or organic matter around the base of the plant.
