Acer palmatum 'Little Princess' also known as Acer palmatum 'Kiyohime' or 'Chiyo hime'. A sturdy, vigorous, dwarf variety. The leaves are quite small, beautifully coloured in early spring. The leaf edges are tinged with orange-red and turn rich green in the summer. Autumn colour is yellow-orange. A great variety to be grown in a pot or as a bonsai tree.
It may grow up to 2 m high in about 10 years.
Should be grown in moist but well-drained soil. Leaf colour is best in partial shade but the full sun can be tolerated.
Like all Maples, this one is very easy to maintain. It doesn't require any pruning routine. Remove any dead or damaged branches. The best time to prune is the late autumn or winter when the plant is fully dormant.
In spring you may add a top dressing of a multi-purpose fertiliser or organic matter around the base of the plant.
