A small, spreading maple that will only reach 3m in height, with a mound forming, weeping habit. Tamukeyama bears beautiful, cascading purple-red, burgundy, lacy leaves. This colour lasts right through from spring until autumn.
Suitable for container growing. Also good for borders as they are slow growing. Sturdy and hardy. Does best in dappled shade.
Does well in hot climates. Known to live for over 100 years.
As with most maples, very little pruning is required as their natural shape is pleasing. Should it be necessary, this should only be carried out in the dormant season. Only removing dead, diseased or crossing branches.
