Acer palmatum 'Chitoseyama' is a pretty deciduous shrub of compact, mounding habit. The leaves are light red when emerging then turn into bronze-green. This shrub has a beautiful scarlet colour in the autumn. Can bear small purple flowers.
This variety reaches 2m in height and 3m spread that makes it perfect for most locations, even a small garden. Can be container grown. Hardy.
Should be grown in moist but well-drained soil. Leaf colour is best in partial shade but the full sun can be tolerated.
Like all Maples, this one is very easy to maintain. It doesn't require any pruning routine. Remove any dead or damaged branches. The best time to prune is the late autumn or winter when the plant is fully dormant.
In spring you may add a top dressing of a multi-purpose fertiliser or organic matter around the base of the plant.
