A dwarf variety. A good, strong dwarf shrub, bearing large seven lobed leaves. The long, ovate, lanceolate lobes radiate outwards, tapering to a point. The name means 'beautiful green leaves'. A strong growing hardy cultivar. One of the first to bear leaves.
The foliage is a strong green with bronze edges and tips. Autumn sees the colours turn to yellow with a reddish hue. Aoba Jo has a mounded habit and reaches only 3ft in height. Popular with bonsai enthusiasts. Great in containers due to its size.
Prefers some sun or partial shade.
